2010 is going to be a very exciting time for the Music Service with our new look Saturday Music Centre starting on the 16th January.

The new centre is an amalgamation of Deptford Music Centre (DMC) and Lewisham Centre for Young Musicians (LCYM). Both these centres had a rich tradition of excellent music making and by joining together we’re looking forward to building on that tradition.

The new Saturday Music Centre will be based at Prendergast Ladywell Fields College. It will open at 9:30am and finish at 1:15pm - that’s over 3½ hours of fantastic musical activities.  We are looking to provide a rich and diverse range of musical activities suitable for children who have just started to those that are working towards the higher grades.

We are planning a three session day, so you can do three different activities if you wish so long as it fits in within the timetable:

Session one:
Creative Music workshop
Music Theory
Wind chamber groups
Jazz Band
Intermediate Strings

Session two:
Starter Winds (New group!)
Orchestra
Starter Strings (New group!)
Recorder Consort
Brass Ensemble
Guitar Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble

Session three:
Lewisham Schools Concert Band
Training Band
Rock Bands
Choir (New group!)

There is an enrolment day for the centre on the 16th January, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 12:30. You will need to bring in your application form on the day, or fill one in when you are there, ready to start activities on the 23rd January.  All new students will need to ask their schools to endorse their application. This is not necessary for former DMC and LCYM students. The enrolment day will give us a chance to meet everyone, and sort out timetables and payment of fees.  There will also be a tour of the premises, a chance to meet ensemble leaders and a special workshop for everyone. So remember to bring your instruments!
