Welcome to the Lewisham Music Service website!
Please note that the Music Service Consultation is now closed. Thank you for your comments.
The Music Service continues to go from strength to strength with now over 3,000 children and young people taking part every week in our school music programmes, at our Saturday Centres and in after school music classes and ensembles. Our new whole class music project for primary schools Tune Up is in preparation for September as we work towards our target of giving every child in KeyStage 2 the opportunity to learn to play an instrument or learn to sing. We look forward to working with many more children as Tune Up reaches more and more schools across the Borough.

There is a whole host of exciting musical events to enjoy this summer in which Music Service students are involved
Our Summer Extravaganza on 20 June was a huge success. Over 200 children performed on four different stages around The Albany to a total audience of nearly 300 people. Ensembles performing included Lewisham Schools Concert Band; Deptford Music Centre (DMC) Orchestra, Training Band, Percussion Group, Jazz Band, Brass Band, Double Reeds Ensemble, Oboe Trio and Recorder Consort; Lewisham Centre for Young Musicians (LCYM) Orchestra, Rock Band, String Orchestra, Creative Music Group, Wind and Guitar Ensembles; Harmonica Ensemble; Tootey Flutey; Clarinet Choir; Keyboard players; Sound of Samba; Lewisham Fiddlers; Lewisham Schools Brass Band. There were also chances for the audience to take part in tabla and djembe drum workshops.
11 July is the 25th Anniversary of People’s Day in Mountsfield Park, Catford. The Music Service is presenting ‘Make A Sound’ which will feature over 200 young performers from our schools and music centres from 1.40pm on the main Broadway Stage. This will be followed by a set from the superb Lewisham Schools Concert Band finishing at 2.30pm. Don’t miss it!
We are delighted to welcome to Southeast London Cornwall Music Service Wind Band and Strings Orchestra. They will be joining some of our musicians for a performance on Friday 17 July – details to follow.
